Shalom and One Heart, 2020
Schechter Boston, Newton
Our student body is made up of such bright and colorful personalities, that when they all come together we are in awe of the vibrancy they collectively bring to our campus. This year, every grade has been assigned a color and every cohort a shade of that color to help with wayfinding and spirit-raising throughout our school. The schools two new pavement murals highlight the beauty that can shine through when all of our colors come together.
Shalom, pavement mural at Schechter Upper School Campus
This mosaic-inspired mural facilitated by artist Tova Speter highlights the importance of every individual in contributing to the whole, and our need for the vibrancy that our students bring to activate our space and reveal the hidden Shalom. The Hebrew word Shalom may have always been there, but can only be seen when all of the pieces come together and we are able to shift our perspective to embrace it. This mural will now greet our students as they enter and exit our school, help guide them in their travels, and add much needed color to our world.
One Heart, pavement mural at Schechter Lower School Campus
This playful mural facilitated by artist Tova Speter utilizes a spectrum of colors (representing all of the cohorts of students) that come together to reveal a heart welcoming students and staff into the building. The spirit of our community is sourced in love, with a heart at the core of all that we do. The color-coded, socially distanced pawprints (inspired by the Schecter panther mascot) let students know where to stand and what direction to walk in/out of the building, adding a wayfinding functionality to the artwork. This mural offers brightness as students enter and exit our school and adds much needed color to our world.
