This collaborative mural was designed and painted by youth at Rec Place Afterschool under the direction of artist Tova Speter and assisted by Wendy Lewis. Everyone was invited to share their ideas and help paint, and the 3rd-5th graders worked together to bring everyone’s thoughts about the theme of “connections” to life.

In the words of the students: “From the beginning concept to the finished mural, it was exciting to watch it evolve. We made plans and revisions. It was a learning experience on how to work together as a group as we reached agreements on design and colors. Each section represents a different part of what we do at Rec Place inspired by things that connect us, including playing football, parachute, painting, connecting with Rec Buddies, connect four, sewing, and lego. We hope that the whole Rec Place community (and everyone who sees our mural) will enjoy the mural as much as we do.”

This mural is dedicated to all of our Lower Falls neighbors, especially to Jane McDaid who wanted to have an afterschool in the neighborhood to help connect kids and families who attended different schools.
